Deutsch: Marktbrunnen in Mainz. Detail: Bild eines rückwärts stürzenden, betrunkenen Bauern, der den roten Hahn als Symbol des Aufruhrs in der Hand hält. Die Ikonographie wertet in eindeutiger Weise die Forderungen der Bauern. 1525 waren Bauern aus dem mainzischen Rheingau in die Stadt gezogen, um ihren Forderungen nach mehr Rechten Ausdruck zu verleihen. Dies steht für den rechtssymbolischen Charakter des Brunnens als Warnung vor der Truksucht. Die Inschrift „O Bedenck das End“ befindet sich über diesem Bild. |
