Dirks Substrate: on bark of attached, dead branch of Acer x freemanii (Acer x freemanii columnar freeman maple #68010) Habitat: Horticultural garden (arboretum) Host: Acer x freemanii (Acer x freemanii columnar freeman maple #68010) Other: Thick, tannish, smooth and bumpy, cracked, effused, resupinate, determinate margin; the sporocarp is growing over moss, the moss is kind of embedded within the trama; the hymenium is hydrophobic, slowly absorbing liquids; 5% KOH turns the hymenium greyish blue, ammonium absorbs more quickly and dissolves tissue, turning the leftover tissue very slightly greyish blue; odor kind of nice and mushroomy, taste not determined.
