Description
English: View from the south of Klooster Opveld in Maastricht, Netherlands. This was from 1902 until 2018 a monastery of the Soeurs de la Charité de la Providence, who fled from France during a period of anti-clericalism. The oldest part of the monastery is an 18th-century mansion, Huis Opveld, formerly in Heer, now in the Maastricht neighbourhood of Vroendaal. This photograph shows the rear of a wing designed by Theo van Kan in 1905, that runs parallel to Veldstraat. It looks almost identical to the unpainted north side. It features terracotta sculptures of female saints or angels, designed by the young architect Theo van Kan, who died shortly afterwards.. On the left is the school house.
