Klooster Opveld in Maastricht, Netherlands.

Summary edit

Description
English: Detail of Klooster Opveld in Maastricht, Netherlands. This was from 1902 until 2018 a monastery of the Soeurs de la Charité de la Providence, who fled from France during a period of anti-clericalism. The oldest part of the monastery is an 18th-century mansion, Huis Opveld, formerly in Heer, now in the Maastricht neighbourhood of Vroendaal. This photograph shows a terracotta sculpture of a female saint or angel at the rear of the mansion. The architect of the 1905 extension and designer of the sculptures was the young architect Theo van Kan, who died shortly afterwards.
