Description
English: Sacs of beans were left under the chair of all participants in the 2023 USDA Native American Heritage Month Observance event at the USDA Whitten Building, Washington D.C., Nov. 16, 2023. In celebration of Native American Heritage Month (NAHM), the Office of Tribal Relations (OTR) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (OASCR) hosted a department-wide observance featuring a panel of Indigenous chefs, foragers, and food leaders. The event also offered remarks from Stacy Dean, Deputy Under Secretary, Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services, and Jenny Lester Moffitt, Under Secretary, Marketing and Regulatory Programs. The panel highlighted this year’s USDA theme for NAHM, “Indigenous Foods: The Intersection Between Land, Food, and Culture.” (USDA photo by Christophe Paul)
