Description

Hereford station made a good photo stop for railtours thanks to two centre roads and long platforms. On 28 June 1987, Hertfordshire Railtour's "The Baker's Dozen" was photographed with 45128 on a rake of "Northampton Cobbler" Mk 1 coaches which by then were mainly in Network SouthEast livery.

Originally planned to run from London Euston to London Waterloo via Birmingham, Hereford and Salisbury (via 13 counties, hence the name) with one loco throughout. However the first loco (45062) came to grief some 10 miles outside of Euston and was rescued by 31305 which dragged the failed 45 plus train to Birmingham New Street. A replacement "Peak", 45128 as seen here took over for the rest of the tour.

45062 was withdrawn soon after the tour and 45128 survived for almost another 2 years being finally withdrawn in April 1989.
