Summary edit

Description
English: Looking north on Second Avenue, Seattle, Washington, from Marion Street with the Burke Building on our left. (Since the late 1960s, the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building has been on this site.) The clock was a Howard model, sold by Joseph Mayer to Hardy & Co. jewelers. In the 1960s when then-Hardy owner retired it was sold and moved to a farm on the peninsula. Now it's in private hands down in Olympia. Hardy opened here in 1904, but I don't think he had the clock at that time. I think it appeared a few years later.

Up ahead on the right is the Hotel Savoy, always a landmark in 2nd Avenue photographs after it opened in 1906.

If this were 1909 or 1910, the clock for Burnett Brothers would be visible up the block from Hardy.

Maybe there's something else visible to pin the date better, between 1906 and 1910?

This is a Lowman & Hanford postcard. See more of my random acquisitions.

REDATING this as circa 1908: the New Washington Hotel (now Josephinum), built 1908 is visible in the distance. - jmabel
