Summary edit

Description
English: (2+1)D acceleration puzzler, with proper-acceleration α in dotted red, coordinate acceleration a ≡ d2x/dt2 in dot-dashed gray, frame-variant force per unit mass F/m ≡ dw/dτ in dot-dashed blue, proper-velocities w ≡ dx/dτ in dashed green. The enemy trajectory is in gray, while the starfleet cruiser trajectory is in black. Units for distance are lightyears, for velocities are lightyears/year, and for accelerations and force per unit mass are lightyears/year2.

Red dots mark object-locations when (using synchronized map-clocks) the enemy-cruiser drops from hyperspace traveling at constant velocity with its hyperdrive disabled, while gray dots mark object-locations 1.75 map-years (0.90 years on enemy-ship clocks or 1.24 years on starfleet-ship clocks) later when the cruiser is detected by star fleet and the chase begins. The black dot marks the rendezvous point 1.58 map-years (1 year on starfleet-ship clocks or 0.81 years on enemy-ship clocks) after the start of the chase, when the enemy-ship is captured and taken into custody by starfleet command.

This physics image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “2p1DspaceChase.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
