Description

31 & 33 Great Jones Street, between the Bowery and Lafayette Street in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, are former stables in the Italianate style.

  • 31 Great Jones Street (right) - built in 1870-71, designed by W. E. Waring, was the location of Fire Patrol #1 of the New York Board of Fire Underwriters from 1873-1907, after which it was converted for other uses.
  • 33 Great Jones Street (left) - built in 1871, designed by Charles Wright, for the Wilcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company; in 1889 it was purchsed by Beineicke & Co. a purveyor of meat, for use as a stable.
