Description 330-PS-146 (USN 707564): First Navy Women Doctor Ordered at Sea Duty on Hospital Ship. Lieutenant Commander Bernice R. Walters, MC, USNR, one of the five women doctors on active duty holds the distinction of being the first woman medical officer ever ordered to serve on board a Navy ship. She served onboard USS Consolation (AH 15). She is shown here bandaging a serviceman’s wrist. Photograph released March 22, 1950. (8/18/2015).
