Description 330-PS-2266 (USN 708388): U.S. Navy Airlift Record Earns Airfreight Trophy. The Navy Department’s Air Traffic Division was awarded the Slick Airway’s Annual Airfreight Trophy at Special Ceremonies at the Pentagon. The award was made by Mr. William Hollan, Executive Vice President of the Air Freight Line, and was accepted by Lieutenant Robert W. Maiden, USN, who was Director of the Navy Air Traffic Division. Shown here are Honorable John Floberg, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Air (left), Lieutenant Maiden (center) and Mr. Hollan. The award was made for “an outstanding contribution to the success of the now-famous transcontinental airlift of vital defense materiel, ‘Operation Quicktrans,’ a program which, in the estimation of Slick Airways, contributed the most to the advancement of airfreight in 1951.” Photograph released October 5, 1951.
