Description 330-PS-3256 (46410 AC): These two aerial views of an atomic explosion were photographed from a U.S. Air Force observer aircraft during one of the continental nuclear tests, conducted over the past two years by the Atomic Energy Commission in the Nevada desert in which Department of Defense participated. U.S. Air Force aircraft not only delivered the weapon to ground zero, but also monitored the whole test area with observer aircraft who perform many duties. These duties include cloud tracking, camera ships, cloud sampling aircraft and other technical aircraft with specific scientific missions. Photograph released March 16, 1953. (5/5/2015).
