Description 330-PS-4052 (USN 708870): Captain Joy Bright Hancock, left) retired Director of WAVES, was presented the Legion of Merit by Secretary of the Navy Robert B. Anderson during a ceremony at the Pentagon, May 29, 1953. The citation, in part, follows: “For exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services…as Director of the Women’s Reserve of the Naval Reserve from July 1946 to October 1948 and as Assistant Chief of Naval Personnel for Women from October 1948 to June 1953.” (4/28/2015).
