Summary edit

Description 330-PS-49 (USN 707551): U.S. Navy Receives Art Collection. Rear Admiral John B. Heffernan, USN, (Ret), Director of Naval Records, Historical Division, extends the Navy’s thanks to Mr. J. Frank Richmond (right), who presented the Abbott Collection to the U.S. Navy Department on behalf of the Abbott Laboratories, Incorporated, of N. Chicago, Illinois. Valued at a half-million dollars (at that time), the collection, consisting of 256 paintings in oil, water color, ink, charcoal, and crayon, was the work of fourteen outstanding American artists who depicted the activities of the Navy in World War II. Due to his admiration of the U.S. Navy, Mr. G. DeWitt Clough, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Laboratories, prompted the donation of the Abbott Collection. Mr. Richmond is the Eastern Divisional Sales Manager of the Laboratories. Photograph released January 30, 1950. (8/18/2015).
