Summary edit

Description 330-PS-629 (USN 707940): U.S. Navy pilot rescued two miles off North Korean coast. In making an attack on shipping in North Korea port of Wonsan, Task Force 77 “Corsair” pilot Lieutenant Junior Grade Nathan E. Curry was hit by flak and forced to parachute into the water. A plane in company radioed a patrolling destroyer for help. Two and hone half hours later, the badly burned pilot was picked-up from his one-man raft by the destroyer. During the rescue operation, the destroyer was under threat of an attack by enemy plane, but the plane was driven off by planes of Task Force 77. He was given emergency medical treatment and the next day was transferred back to his carrier. The U.S. Navy ships were not identified. Photograph released August 1950. (7/14/2015).
