Description 330-PS-6445 (USN 709066): Hospital Corpsman Third Class William J. Charette, Medal of Honor recipient, poses at the White House after receiving the Nation’s highest military award from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Charette received the award for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty when he covered an exploding enemy grenade with his down body as it landed near a wounded Marine he was attending. The Corpsman was serving as a medical aid man with a Marine rifle company when the action occurred. Photograph released June 1954. (4/14/2015).
