| Description | 330-PSA-113-60-4: Safety in North Africa. En route to Brussels, Belgium, these refugees from the Republic of Congo found safety and comfort at Wheelus Air Force Base, Tripoli, Libya, after a flight from Brazzaville in a U.S. Air Force C-118 aircraft. The plane was one of two MATS aircraft which moved a total of 175 refugees through Wheelus on July 13, 1960. A Wheelus helicopter airlifted to the Congo helped in the evacuation. The scene here shows the refugee group as they disembark at Wheelus. (8/25/2015). |
