Description 330-PSA-126-65 (APS-65-173): Historic D-Day Message. The original (field) tape message announcing the successful invasion of France by Allied Forces is being held by Sergeant James E. Rowland, USA, Communication Specialist with the Strategic Communications Command in the Pentagon. Twenty-one years ago the D-Day message transmitted at 9:15 a.m., June 6, 1944, to the War Department in Washington, D.C., read as follows: “Communique Number One. Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces under the Command of General Eisenhower, Allied Naval Forces, supported by strong Air Forces, began landing Allied Armies this morning on the Northern Coast of France.” U.S. Army photograph, June 4, 1965.
