Description 330-PSA-133-60 (USN 710761): Captain William C. Mott, USN, Becomes New Judge Advocate General. Captain William C. Mott, USN, becomes Judge Advocate General of the Navy during ceremonies in the Secretary of the Navy’s office at the Pentagon, August 1. He replaces Rear Admiral Chester C. Ward, USN, who retires August 1. Captain Mott is the second legal specialist appoint to the post. Admiral Ward was the first. Effective with his appointment as Judge Advocate General, Captain Mott was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. He has been Deputy and Assistant Judge Advocate General with additional duties as Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Defense since September 1958. Shown here is Secretary of the Navy William B. Franke watching as Rear Admiral Chester C. Ward, USN, (right), swears in his replacement as Judge Advocate General of the Navy, Rear Admiral William C.
