Description 330-PSA-4-61 (USN 710846): Commander Robert Giamotti, USN, receives a congratulatory handshake from the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, USN, on being presented the U.S. Navy’s first Command-at-Sea Insignia at the Pentagon, January 5, 1961. The device, a Gold Star superimposed on an anchor and an unfurled commissioning pennant, was authorized November 25, to be worn by officers in command of ships or major aircraft units, or who have previously held such commands. Commander Giamotti commanded the minesweeper USS Dash in 1953-54. The Command-at-Sea device will be worn on the right breast by those presently in command, and on the left breast by those who have held command. Photograph released January 6, 1961. (9/15/15).
