Description
English: 330-PS-9803 (428-GX-USN 710526): The McDonnel F4H set the world’s altitude record on 6 December 1959 when the Phantom II jet flew to 98,560 feet. It bettered the then official record of 984,658 set in July 1959 by Major V.S. Ilyushin of the Soviet Union in a TU-431. The F4H was piloted by Commander Lawrence E. Flint, Jr., USN. The flight was made at Edwards Air Force Base in California. (9/30/2014).
