Summary edit

Description
English: The house at 4561 Main Road in Tiverton, Rhode Island has signs on it which read "Tribal Office" and "Trading Post". On the flag pole outside are flags reading "The Royal Council of Seven Royal House / Pokanoket Tribe / Pokanoket Nation" and "Acoaxet Micmac".

The Pokanoket Tribe is not recognized by governments of the United States or Rhode Island, or by other Wampanoag communities which are. The Narragansett Indian Tribe, which is the only Federally-recognized tribe in Rhode Island, also does not recognize the Pokanoket Tribe. Similarly, the Acoaxet Micmacs are not recognized as a tribe, although there is a Aroostook Band of Micmacs in Maine which are. The Pokanoket Tribe claims their descent from Metacomet, also known as King Phillip, but the historical records of the Mashpees indicate that after King Phillip's War, the Pokanoaket families were taken in by the Mashpees and become part of their community.

A court finding regarding the house at 4561 Main Road found that it was not a tribal headquarters but was the personal home of the plantiff in that action.

The Pokanoket group was involved in a dispute with Brown University about some land they claimed sovereignty over, which lead to an extended sit-in on the Brown campus.
