Description

Karelian Isthmus, Russia Summa/Kamenka War Memorial to Finnish Soldiers

Former shelter for horses during the Winter war between Finland and Soviet Union (Dec. 1939 - Febr. -40). The war was short but very heavy and cold, about minus 30-40 Celsius. The area was ceded to Soviet Union after the war. There is now a war memorial in the middle of the forest. You need a guide, if you are looking for the place.

Summa, jossa oli yksi talvisodan kovimmista taisteluista. Tässä oli hevossuoja, joka oli maahan kaivettu. Nyt kuoppa on vielä jäljellä, mutta se on veden peitossa. Alueella on juoksuhautoja ja muita kuoppia, joten liikkuessa pitää olla varovainen.

Summan nimi on nykyisin Kamenka, Viipurista etelään. Sitä tuskin löytää muuten kuin oppaan avulla. Ympärillä ei ole asutusta, vain metsää, josta osa on kaadettu, myös muistomerkin ympäriltä, vaikka suomalainen firma oli luvannut jättää hautausmaan alueen koskematta.
