Shield: Celeste (Light Blue), two arching wrenches in dexter and sinister Gules (Crimson) fimbriated Or encircles by a gearwheel superimposed by a sword of the like hilt Gules (Crimson) surmounted by a machine nut of the last. Crest: That for regiments and separate battalions of the Alabama Army National Guard: From a wreath of colors Or and Celeste (Light Blue), a slip of cotton plant with full bursting boll, Proper. Motto: Faith and Courage. Symbolism Shield: Crimson and light blue are the colors traditionally used by Maintenance units, the previous unit designation. The gear wheel, machine nut and wrenches reflect implements associated with the maintenance mission. The sword refers to the Battalion's origin as Infantry. The blue field combined with the elements alludes to the unit's original and current home, Tallassee, Alabama, which means "captured town" and suggests the Tallapoosa River that divides the town. Crest: The crest is that of the Alabama Army National Guard. Background: The coat of arms was approved for the 731st Maintenance Battalion on 28 June 2001. It was redesignated for the 731st Support Battalion with the symbolism updated effective 1 September 2008. Sometime later redesignated as 731st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. |
