Description 80-G-287110: Battle for Leyte, October-December 1944. Close-up damage to USS Ammen (DD 527) caused by suicide crash dive of Japanese “Yokosuka P1Y “Frances” as she passed between stacks, sheared off top of forward stack, two search-lights on forward stack and damaged after stack extensively. Passed from port to starboard, landing in water 50 years on starboard beam. Photographed November 1, 1944. U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/03/21). Note, the original caption had the craft as a Betty.
