English: The fight and martyrdom of the Polish countryside during the Second World War. The "817 - learn about this story" exhibition was opened in the Sejm. The exhibition is a tribute to the memory of those who faithfully served the homeland during World War II. The Polish Sejm Marshal Marek Kuchciński sent a letter to the vernissage participants: "The symbol of German crimes committed at that time is carried out with exceptional cruelty, pacification Michniów, whose inhabitants were cruelly murdered for helping the guerrillas and the place burned down. The Nazis did not know pity, and violence was their only response to all manifestations of attachment to the idea of ​​freedom. However, they did not succeed in destroying the deeply rooted sense of pride in Polishness and the spirit of struggle for an independent state. It is our common duty to pass on to future generations of Poles knowledge about the struggle and martyrdom of the Polish countryside. This is still not enough disseminated thread of our history. Therefore, thank you once again for presenting this exhibition in the Polish Parliament and I deeply trust that for many visitors the exhibition will become a stimulus for a better understanding of this important history card of our nation. " The exhibition shows different forms of terror applied to rural communities during World War II. One of the most violent repressive actions was pacification of the village (murdering residents, robbery of property and destruction of buildings). In the borders of modern Poland, 817 villages and tens of thousands of people were repressed. Behind every action, there is a story marked by suffering: the course of tragic events, the fate of the inhabitants of the pacified villages and the attempt to rebuild after pacification. The exhibition shows the tragedy of the war, hence the contents of the general picture of the occupation, detailed themes or specific stories.
