The American YMCA along with other such groups played an integral part in providing social welfare services to the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. They operated a number of rest and relaxtion centers and canteens. This is the business card for the Hotel du Pavillon in Paris which was for enlisted men. A description of the hotel, in the American Field Service Bulletin lists the provision of ice cream and tea served by American women to provide a homely atmosphere
