Title
English: 8th Ave. S. drawbridge, ca. 1920
Description
English:

On verso of image: 8th Ave. S. drawbridge, east approach, Number 5 South Park car line, W. T. Whitfield Bridge and [illeg.] (Grandfather) PH Coll 266.283

  • Subjects (LCTGM): Street railroad tracks--Washington (State)--Seattle; Utility poles--Washington (State)--Seattle
  • Subjects (LCSH): Eighth Avenue (Seattle, Wash.); Georgetown (Seattle, Wash.); Drawbridges--Washington (State)--Seattle; Automobiles--Washington (State)--Seattle

It's not clear whether this is the Georgetown or South Park end of the bridge. The bridge was demolished in 1937; nowadays Gateway Park North sits on a street end on the Georgetown side of the former bridge, and Gateway Park South is situated similarly on the South Park side. It is particularly unclear because the straightening of the Duwamish removed an oxbow right near here.
