English: A46, Fosse Way 2½ years on. The duelling of the Fosse way between Widmerpool and Newark was finally approved in January 2009 and work has been progressing since the end of March. Along the stretch between the Widmerpool roundabout and the Cotgrave/Stragglethorpe/Cropwell junction many trees have been felled, hedges grubbed up and farmland acquisitioned and fenced off to accommodate the construction of the new carriageway and slip roads from the minor roads adjoining the A46. There has been a pause in the work during the end of April and beginning of May as trenches were dug to investigate any archaeological remains on this major Roman route across the country. This improvement work will result in an almost continuous dual carriageway major trunk road from the M1 at Leicester Forest East to Lincoln, a distance of 56 miles.
