Description A U.S. Navy Douglas AD-7 Skyraider (BuNo 142043) of Attack Squadron VA-155 taking off from the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CVA-19). VA-155 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 15 (CVG-15) aboard the Hancock for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 15 February to 2 October 1958.
The A-1J 142043 was later transferred to the USAF as 52-142043. it served with the 1st Special Operations Squadron, 56th Special Operations Wing, and was finally shot down by anti aircrft fire 40 km west of Hue, Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam, on 20 June 1972, during a rescue mission for Cdr. Jimmy Davis, CO of VF-211 (shot down in F-8J Crusader, BuNo 150923). The pilot of 142043, Capt. Larry G. Highfill, bailed out and was rescued by a USAF Sikorsky HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant helicopter.
