Summary edit
DescriptionAIA North Carolina Headquarters, Raleigh, NC (27224706617).jpg | The ultra-modern AIA North Carolina Building, in the front, constructed in 2011, despite its sleek appearance is actually an older building than the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, which was built in a very traditional English Colonial/Renaissance style and completed in 2015. I believe that few better contrasts like this exist that show the schism that has started to form in the design world, with classical and traditional forms, developed over thousands of years, becoming more popular, while bigger design organizations, design schools, and established groups hold fast to the modernist movement, which sprang out of 1920s and 1930s Europe. It is unclear at this point which side will win, but the return of classical and traditional styles in high-profile and large-scale projects after being largely absent for 50 or so years is noteworthy. |
