US Navy Lieutenant Steve Nevarez takes a short break from the stress of flight deck operations atop an F-14B Tomcat strike fighter, Fighter Squadron 102 (VF-102). Aircraft is armed with an AIM-9L Sidewinder short range, IR (infrared) air to air missile; AIM-54C Phoenix long range, radar guided, air to air missile and a Mk 82 500 lb. bomb. The nuclear powered aircraft carrier GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and VF-102 are currently conducting operations in the Persian Gulf in support of UN sanctions against Iraq. Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, 2 December 1997.
