Kort nadat Jaffnapatnam was ingenomen door de VOC, vertrok een deel van het garnizoen voor een expeditie naar Negapatnam. De gevangengenomen Portugezen probeerden, samen met Portugezen in dienst van de VOC en een aantal Ceylonezen, van de gelegenheid gebruik te maken en de macht opnieuw te grijpen. Dit mislukte en de verraders werden gemarteld, opgehangen en onthoofd.

Twee mannen zijn op het dak geklommen om de executies beter te kunnen zien.

Shortly after Jaffnapatnam was captured by the VOC, a part of the garrison embarked on an expedition to Negapatnam. The captured Portuguese attempted, together with Portuguese employed by the VOC and a number of Ceylonese, to take advantage of the situation and seize back power. The attempt failed and the traitors were tortured, hung and beheaded.

Two men have climbed on the roof the better to see the execution.
