English: The facade of Arkivet ("The Archives"), a yellow brick building dating back to 1935 in Kristiansand, Norway, with the entrance facing the city center, featuring stairs and a bust of Major Arne Laudal (1892–1944) created by Ingemund Berulvson (1900–1976) and erected in 1946.
  • The Norwegian State Archives in Kristiansand served as the regional headquarters for the Gestapo in Southern Norway from 1942 to 1945, during the German occupation of the country in World War II. In 2001, the location was transformed into a museum, and today, Arkivet stands as a center for peace and human rights.
  • ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre: The Regional State Archives in Kristiansand opened in 1935. When the Nazis arrived in 1940, the Archives' new building was taken over by the German military and later their Security Police. After the war, the Regional State Archives returned and remained until 1997. After extensive restoration, a center for history communication and peace building opened in 2001. A connected structure, a substantial addition with a café, a lecture hall, and more, opened in 2018.

Statsarkivet i Kristiansand var Gestapos hovedkvarter på Sørlandet under den tyske okkupasjonen av Norge under andre verdenskrig. I 2001 åpnet Arkivet som museum, og et utvidet anlegg er i dag freds- og menneskerettighetssenter.

Statsarkivet i Kristiansand ble offisielt åpnet 8. mars 1935. Murbygget i Vesterveien 4 ligger i et villastrøk på Bellevue rett utenfor Kristiansand sentrum. (...) Statsarkivet ble okkupert av tyskerne 10. april 1940, og dette året holdt tyske luftvernssoldater til i bygningen. Den ble frigitt igjen i desember samme år, og snart startet ordinær virksomhet opp igjen. Fra 1942 til 1945 fungerte bygningen som politistasjon for det tyske sikkerhetspolitiet. Det ble innredet celler og torturkammer i det som tidligere hadde vært et statsarkiv. Etter krigen flyttet Statsarkivet etterhvert inn igjen. De holdt til i huset frem til 1997.
Etter omfattende restaurering ble senter for historieformidling og fredsbygging åpnet 8. mai 2001. Et moderne tilbygg, med kafé, foredragssal med mer, åpnet 1. februar 2018. Ved hovedinngangen er et minnested med blant annet en minnebauta.
