Description
English: Black & White Orbital image.

This is figure 3-48 of the Apollo 15 Preliminary Science Report (NASA SP-289, 1972), which has the following caption:

A very low Sun illuminates this view of southwestern Aristarchus Plateau. The effects of changing Sun angle are best demonstrated by examining the same area illuminated by the Sun at a range of elevation angles. This eastward view includes three distinctive rilles that can be easily identified in figure 3-49.

This is also shown as Figure 219 from Apollo Over the Moon (NASA SP-362, 1978), which has the following caption:

A low Sun angle view of the western part of the Aristarchus Plateau shows three sharp-rimmed linear depressions that occur in the higher unit and terminate at the edge of the plateau. Their floors are filled with mare material that is similar to the surrounding materials of Oceanus Procellarum (lower right corner). The chain of craters in the mare of Oceanus Procellarum is believed to be secondaries from the crater Aristarchus (outside of the view). As described by Alfred M. Worden, the Apollo 15 CMP, the mare materials in this region display a brownish tint, as compared to the metal gray materials of Mare Imbrium farther east.-F.E. B.
