Description

Apollo 17 Hasselblad image from film magazine 150/LL - Lunar orbit.
This photo was used in Figure 4-38 of the Apollo 17 Preliminary Science Report (SP-330, 1973), which has the following caption:

The lunar far-side crater Van de Graaff, centered at latitude 28° S, longitude 173° E, is the large, flat-floored double crater in this south-looking, high-oblique view. Its long dimension is approximately 270 km. Adjoining Van de Graaff on the southeast is the crater Birkeland, which has terraced walls and a central peak. The circular, mare-filled crater on the right horizon is Thomson.
