English: Dit specifieke sein 870C stond altijd voor sein 870 dat stond vóór station Bilthoven voor reguliere treinen richting Utrecht.
Nico Spilt legt op zijn website uit waar dit sein toe diende: "Bij 140 km/uur moeten de seinen minimaal 1200 meter van elkaar staan. Meestal staan seinen langs de vrije baan op 1500 meter van elkaar, zodat er niets aan de hand is, maar in de buurt van stations en langs lijnen met druk verkeer was de afstand soms 1000 meter. Dat betekende dat men seinen moest gaan verplaatsen, wat een ingrijpende en kostbare operatie was. In plaats van het sein te verplaatsen, verschoof men de plek waarop de ATB-code kan wijzigen. Op die plek werd een code-wisselsein geplaatst: hierin gaat een witte, naar beneden gerichte pijl branden als de machinist een codewisseling met remopdracht mag verwachten. Voor treinen zonder ATB heeft dit sein geen betekenis." |
