Object history

Das Wappen ist ein von Gold und Grün geteilter Schild; im oberen Feld eine schwarze, goldgekrönte Eule mit ausgebreitetem Flug, im unteren Feld zwei schräggekreuzte silberne Hämmer.

Die Eule stammt aus dem Wappen der Grafen Saurau. Die Hämmer weisen auf die Bedeutung der einstigen Hammerwerke hin, die in der Ligister Gegend bis in das 19. Jahrhundert hinein einen wichtigen Wirtschaftsfaktor darstellten.
