English: A Covenanter's grave at Kirkmichael Parish Churchyard This memorial is for Gilbert McAdam who was killed for his religious beliefs in 1685. There are three engraved panels on the monument inscribed as follows:-
East Panel HERE LYES GILLBERT McADAM WHO WAS SHOT IN THIS PARISH BY THE LAIRD OF CO LZEAN AND BALLOCHMIL FOR HIS ADHERENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD AND SCOTLANDS COVENAN TED WORK OF REFORMATION JULY 1685 North Panel Erected A.D. 1829 BY A PUBLICK CONTRIBUTION A OF FEW WELL DISPOSED PEOPLE. AS A TESTIMONY OF THEIR ADHERENCE TO THESE TRUTHS AND APPROBATION OF THAT CAUSE IN WHICH THIS MARTYR SUFFERED West Panel JA MEMENTO MORI THIS STONE BELONGS TO GILBERT McADAM WHO LIES HERE SON TO WILLIAM McADAM AND BESSIE FOLLIRTOUN INSCRIPTION ON BACK OF OLD INSERTED STONE |
