Description
English: This is plate 28 from William Hodges' 'Select Views in India'. Hodges travelled past the Dutch settlement at Chinsura during his 1781/82 tour of Bengal. Located on the river Ganges, Chinsura had been settled by the Dutch in the previous century. Hodges wrote: "This is the residence of the Dutch Governor and his Council. There is a fort and within that the factories of the Dutch East-India Company in this part of India. Chiunsura is remarkable for the pleasantness of its situation and its healthiness."
