A beared man holds up an enormous leg. |
||
Description |
A beared man wrapped in himation, holds up an enormous leg. The swelling of the veins shows the nature of the illness and the reason for the dedication. According to the inscription, an offering of Lysiamachides, son of Lysimachos the Acharian (possibly the one who was Archon in 339/38). Unique in its kind. Found on the west slapes of the Acropolis where there was a shrine of the hero doctor Amynos. Wellcome Images |
