en of Fortune in the Province to become joint Suretieswith him, or if that is not sufficient he has a very nighrelation in England that hath a Landed Estate in Somerset-shire worth upwards of 12,000 pounds sterling, who, heis persuaded, would, if security is required to be given inEngland, become surety on his Behalf. The consent of the governor to his secretarys marriageis magnanimous if the story current in the province be truethat Horatio Sharpe was himself enamoured of the fairMary Ogle. Youth triumphed over rank, and the handsomeand talented young secretary was chosen instead of themore mature governor. This episode, however, did notinterrupt their friendship, and in the solid brick housebuilt by John Ridout in Duke of Gloucester Street, wherehe brought his young wife in 1765, and where his descendantsstill live, there is a room known as Colonel Sharpes room, which was always ready when he chose to pay a visit totown, especially after he gave up his town residence toGovernor Eden.

Enclosed youhave the Lord Proprietors Orders and Instructions forProclaiming His Majestys Accession to his Imperial Realms. The immediate departure of the packet allows me only tosay of our joy for the taking of Montreal and the Possessionof Canada.
