English: A gravestone at Lauder Old Parish Churchyard This old symbolic stone is at the southwest corner of the churchyard. The inscription on the reverse is in good condition and reads:-

HERE IS INTERRED SIMON BATHGATE, TENNANT IN ELSINUIRE WHO DIED 12TH MAY 1759, AGED 49 YEARS. ALSO MARY BATHGATE SPOUSE TO JAMES BATHGATE, TENNANT IN TOALLASHILL WHO DIED 8TH APRIL 1775, AGED 34 YEARS. ALSO JOHN BATHGATE, WHO DIED IN THE YEAR 1829, AGED 21 YEARS. ALSO HIS FATHER SIMON BATHGATE, WHO DIED 11TH MAY 1852 AGED 78 YEARS. ALSO MARGARET CLOUGH, WIFE OF SIMON BATHGATE, WHO DIED IN THE PARISH OF MELROSE

25TH APRIL 1857 AGED 81 YEARS.
