^o crafts andthe outcome was eagerly awaited, and nobody was much sur-prised when they came in just two minutes and thirty secondsapart, the Foam leading. Baxters Lady of the Lake got away w^itli third money, beat-ing all competitors of last year. The second day the wind wasso light that the race was decidedly uninteresting. The entrieswere the Foam, Spook, Swan, OM Tub and Lady of the Lake.The Foam, by reason of her enormous spread of canvas, soondistanced all competitors, easily winning first ))lace. The Swan,Spook, Old Tub and Lady of the Lake came in in the ordernamed. On the third and last dav but three of the boats contested,the Foam, the Swan and the Spook. Soon after starting theSwan was disabled, and the Foam had things her own Avay. A yacht club was formed at this time. Rules for measuringboats, for figuring time allow.ances and for governing races gen-erally were adopted and published in pamphlet form. The firstofficers of the yacht club were Commodore, L. Several other races were had firstand last under the management of the yacht club in many ofwhich a good degree of interest was taken, l)ut aftier a time itbecame an old story. The interest died out and the yacht clubwent to pieces. In the meantime the Henderson brothers bought the Foamand made regular trips with her from Spirit Lake to ArnoldsPark. She was the first craft of any kind on the lake to run forpassengers, and did a fair stroke of business. A somewhat sin-gular incident occurred in connection with these trips that isworth preserving. One day A. A. Henderson started from town on his retjurn trip, accompanied by Morgan and E. V. Osborn. The weather was unsettled .and threatening, but forall that the boys had no apprehension of any trouble. Theystarted from the dock, made the run
