Their humour delighted the world, and the knowledge andforce with which Dickens wrote about the bad management of work-houses and schools, and about the debtors prisons of his day, did agreat deal towards getting some of the most needed reforms carriedout. Charles Dickens was buried in Westminster Abbey in 1870. William Makepeace Thackeray (b. 1811, d. 1863) was another of the great Victorian novel writers.
