inth. Its bodyis enwound by two semicircular mutually involved fillets. Finally,the drains laid under the terrace for carrying away the rain-waterand sewerage, into which little sewers opened from almost everyapartment, must not remain unnoticed. The bottom of the drain iscarefully liedded with asphalt. The vaulting is in one case lanceo-late ; in another, spherical; in a third, oval. In short, here in Khor-sabad all sorts of vaulting are found represented. The conqueror Sargon was, in the summer of 705 B.c., succeeded byhis son Sennacherib (Sin-akhe-irba). The inscriptions of the latterprince are engraved on the lions and bulls of his palace at Nineveh(Kouyunjik), and the reliefs on the walls bear also legends. A clayprism with a record of tlie first eight years of his reign, and named,after its first owner, Taylors prism, is now in the British Museum.Another cylinder, treating of its first two years, was copied byBellino in 1820, and published by Grotcfend in the transactions of PLA
