Length of tbe track. 35 English miles. Kails, 15 feet loiig,2 inches wide, and 1 inch tliit-k. Doiiblu tracks with 4 feet H inches betweenthem. Eighteen miles lay on stone ties, 13 on oak or larch ties. The road passed over 63 bridges, and a viaduct of 9 arches, each of whidi bad a »pan of 51) feet, and through a tunnel 2210 yards long.S2 feet wide, and 16 feet high. The cost was about £1,000,000. With the engine Northumbrian the train covered the distance in one hour and tifty minutes; in the year l«.n. wilb the Mercury,in sixty-seven minutes.
