e, called the Schal-cheria, should contain frescos by Mantegna. By a luckychance it happens that the first of these rooms is fairlypreserved, and that the frescos are authenticated bya signature. The name by Avhich the place was knownis, according to Ridolfi, ^^ Camera degli Sposi,^^ thoughin its configuration and arrangement resembling a dining-hall. The northern side is most completely filled withpaintings; above the door leading to the suite of ducalapartments now occupied by the Mantuan records, aflight of winged angels in a landscape supports a tabletwith an inscription alluding to the Marquis Lodovico,his wife Barbara and Mantegna, and dated 1474.
