Hungerford, as his colonelSid^HoS ^^*^ perished, and Durand had been forced to flee, took upon himself the duties and responsi-bilities of Agent. He made up his mind to stand fast in thefort of Mhow, if he could do nothing else, and hold it as abreakwater against the lashing waves of rebellion.
