Hislife was happily participated in by a wife, who entered heart and soul into all theevents of the day. She gave a cheerful welcome to all visitors, and brightenedthe ever lively home. By his death we have lost one who reminded us of daysthat are gone. He was a devout Christian and a staunch Churchman. His wifepre-deceased him only last year. She was the daughter of the late Eev. JohnHides, vicar of Greasley, Notts, and was the mother of six sons and threedaughters. The following letter, written a few years before hisdeath, which his sons—the Rev. F. MR. WILLIAM TOMLINSON. I57 Your Mother tells me you wish me to send you some particulars of a goodrun with the Meynell Hounds over some of the same line as the grand run theyhad from Brailsford Bridge last week (January, 1896). It is now nearly fifty yearssince, so I cannot remember very accurately, but I well remember I was riding Modesty to gather Income tax for Father, and had started as far as the HallGround, when I met the Revd. Hugh Wood, Rector of Blore at that time,coming galloping down the road. He said the hounds were here fromKedleston, and immediately they came streaming towards us as we stood in theroad, and through the gate into Bathers ground. I followed them for the JackFields. Hounds were making for the Limekiln Rough. The fox crossed the(Henmore) brook, and went up the hill to the right of Hall Fields House and onto Atlow Winn, crossed the road and went for Heaven Hill by the White Housebeyond Kniveton.
